The Salento coastline is a marvellous Italian peninsula characterised by long sandy beaches alternating with rocky tracts. Starting at Torre Chianca you can find many sandy beaches fronted by a crystal sea. Here it is possible to enjoy all the comforts of a holiday resort; bars and restaurants and live music. You can also find sandy beaches at the resorts of San Foca and Torre dell’Orso, which are well populated over the summer period and from there you reach Otranto where the sand finishes and your journey is along a rocky coastline. Further to the south is the town of Santa Cesarea, which is noted for its thermal spring and is characterised by is deep rocks, various residential complexes and a splendid rocky coastline with natural grottos (and naturally a crystal clear sea).
After the towns of Castro, Tricase and Gagliano del Capo, you find yourself at the point of the peninsula, at Santa Maria di Leuca, rocky coastline with little sandy inlets, with a magical atmosphere comprised of an infinite graduation in the colours and sights of the area, the sea, the silver reflections of the leaves of the olive groves, the red of the sunsets, the salty scents and the outlines of the ancient coastal towers.
Along the Ionian coastline you find Ugento with sandy beaches the colour of gold and holiday homes buried amongst the green of the countryside; straight away you find yourself at Gallipoli with sandy beaches and verdant countryside, and finally you find yourself at Porto Cesareo, another resort frequented by summer holidaymakers.
